CEDAR CITY, Utah, May 22, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — A 60-year-old motorcyclist died Friday near Cedar City when a tree fell across the roadway, striking him and knocking him off his vehicle.

The accident happened at 3:53 p.m. Friday on State Route 14, near mile marker 11, Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Colton Freckleton told Gephardt Daily.

“Two motorcyclists were eastbound on SR014 when a large quaking aspen tree fell from the south side of the road and knocked the first rider off his bike,” he said. “He tumbled down the roadway approximately 50 feet.”

The rider in front was pronounced dead at the scene. The second rider, who was behind him, hit the tree but did not sustain serious injuries, Freckleton said.

Traffic in both directions was impacted for about three hours, he said.
