Residents Living In A Multi-Unit Building Evacuated Safely After A Two-Alarm Fire Breaks Starts

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, June 21, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Several residents living in a multi-unit home were able to safely escape after a two-alarm fire broke out in their building.

Salt Lake City Fire spokesperson Jasen Asay firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire just after 3:30 pm. at 740 E. Browning Ave.

“The building has three levels and six separate apartments and when crews arrived they were able to locate fire coming from the back corner of the building,” Asay said.

“They also located fire inside the building up in the attic.”

Asay said they are unsure if the fire started outside and moved to the inside or vice versa.

“Investigators are speaking with the residents that live there in order to make that determination,” Asay said. “Right now we are uncertain how many people will be displaced and exactly how much of the building was damaged.”

Red Cross is responding to the location in order to assist those affected by the fire.

Asay said the reason the fire was called out as a two-alarm fire was to make sure the department had enough resources to contain the fire and because the temperatures are so hot, they needed extra firefighters in order to rotate them and spare them from heat exhaustion.

One woman was treated on scene for smoke inhalation and anxiety, Asay said. No one else was injured.
