ROY, Utah, Nov. 20, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A fire at a four-plex on the 2300 block of Chateau Drive displaced a total of 11 people late Monday night.
Fire crews were called to the blaze at 11:26 p.m.
“It started in the bottom, west apartment,” said Officer Stuart Hackworth, Roy City Police Department. “The cause is still under investigation.”
Hackworth said the six adults and five children who live in the building escaped the flames and are all OK.
“Some had minor smoke inhalation,” he said, “and some officers also had smoke inhalation, but no one had to be transported. They were treated on scene.”
Hackworth said a dog and cat were missing. It wasn’t known if the pets had made it out of the building.
At 12:02 a.m. Tuesday, the fire was out, but still smoldering, and crews were checking for hot spots and beginning the clean-up process.
The Red Cross has been called and is assisting the displaced families.
Officer Hackworth said it was too early to estimate the extent of damage to the building. He said the upper and lower units on the west side of the structure definitely had fire damage, but he wasn’t sure of the condition of the other two units.
Crews from Roy, Clinton, Riverdale, and Weber Fire District responded to this fire.
Someone was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
