MURRAY, Utah, Feb. 4, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A hit-and-run driver who ran through an intersection, rear-ended a car, crashed four feet down into a parking lot, and sideswiped a house also left behind a clue that should help officers track him down.
He abandoned his vehicle at the scene.
The incident was called in to the Murray Police Department at about 8:25 p.m. Thursday, and officers quickly responded to 641 E. Vine St.
“It was a hit and run, property damage only,” said Sgt. Marvin Barlow of the Murray Police Department. “We do have a person of interest, and we are trying to track him down at this time.”
Jennifer Tutor was sitting in the office of the building complex when she heard a loud noise.
“It sounded like a dump truck was dragging a dumpster,” she said. “Then I saw the lights, and came out.”
Andrew Anderson heard a noise in his back yard.
“It kept getting increasingly louder, and it was like a metallic crashing sound,” he said. “I looked out the back and saw the (fence) wall was missing a section and a car was on the other side of it.”
Anderson was discussing what happened with neighbors and witnesses when a man wandered in.
“I didn’t know he was the driver at the time. I just thought he was something coming to see what happened. But he was standing by the car, looking around, almost like ‘What do I do now?’ Then he kind of slowly scampered off, and out of our complex. He looked like he didn’t want to get found out.”
Anderson said he and his family are new to the complex.
“Welcome to the nighborhood,” he said. “I’ve only been here a month, so so far it’s been pretty exciting.”
