SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah, April 12, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — The Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office announced Monday that, effective May 3 of this year, Joseph Tarver will assume the leadership role of the Investigations Division as the new Chief of Investigations.

“Chief Tarver’s weighty role as Assistant Chief in the Murray City Police Department is a role he’s filled with honor and distinction,” a statement from the District Attorney’s Office says. “As Assistant Chief, and Deputy Chief immediately previously for the last seven years, Chief Tarver brings considerable executive leadership to his new position.”

Tarver’s experience in law enforcement goes back to the beginning of his career as a patrol officer with Murray PD in 1984, the statement says. He worked his way up through the organization, serving as a detective, a sergeant, and a lieutenant until 2014 when he was promoted to Deputy Chief.

During his several decades with Murray Police Department, Tarver received numerous awards and recognition for his excellent service. Tarver has performed every job and filled every role in law enforcement — from detectives to SWAT and from alcohol enforcement to internal affairs and everything in between.

Murray Chief of Police Craig Burnett commented in the prepared statement.

“While I’m sad to lose Joe, I understand the importance of this unique opportunity and wish Joe all the best in his new job. The D. A.’s Office is fortunate to have his skill set, experience, and demeanor and they will benefit greatly from the goodness of this great man.”

Tarver also released comments.

“I’m humbled and honored at the opportunity to lead this incredible unit of investigators — some of the best men and women in law enforcement. Together, we’ll give our best to those in the office and the community we serve. I’m excited to get to work and give it all I’ve got.”

Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill said he’s excited about the addition to his staff.

“We are ecstatic to have Joe join our team at the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office. Joe brings with him a wealth of experience and will serve the residents of Salt Lake County well.”
