MURRAY, Utah, May 7, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — A violent four-vehicle accident Thursday night in Murray sent three people to the hospital, one of them in critical condition.

The accident, which happened at about 11 p.m. at 4500 S. State, involved a brown pickup truck, a white SUV, a black Corvette and a UTA officer’s vehicle.

“Tonight, there was a four-car accident where a white SUV was traveling south through the intersection, a brown pickup truck was going east through the intersection,” Murray Police Sgt. Alisha Richmond said at the scene. “We’re not sure who ran a red light, but it appears the white vehicle was going at a high rate of speed.

“The brown truck hit the white vehicle on the passenger side, which caused that vehicle to go northbound into oncoming traffic, and it hit a black Corvette head on and then flipped over it.”

The driver of the white SUV is in critical condition, Richmond said. The driver and passenger of the Corvette were also transported to an area hospital to be checked out, but their injuries appeared to be less serious.

The fourth vehicle was that of the Utah Transit Authority officer, whose car was behind the Corvette when it was hit. The force of the impact pushed the Corvette into the officer’s car, causing him to exclaim “I’ve been hit” over his police radio. His injuries were not serious, Richmond said.

  1. Hi, I was involved in an accident on May 6th in Murray Utah on 4500 So. State Street. I was a passenger in my friends black corvette. I wanted to thank all the emergency crew, that helped me and my friend. We thought we were dead! I saw the suv coming toward us, and there was NOTHING I could do to stop it….I closed my eyes after it hit us….then I heard an explosion. I later, realized it was the air bags. My ears were ringing, and I couldn’t hear anything, but I saw emergency crews and Murray police. They came to my door, and asked where I hurt. I told them and they immediately went to work, getting me a cervical collar and a backboard. They had me out of the corvette so fast, and in an ambulance so fast! They know their job so well…I am forever grateful to all of them, as is my friend, who had to be cut out of the drivers side of the corvette. I truly believe the airbags in that car(?there were many), and the quick response of Murray’s emergency response team, saved our lives.
Thank you Murray, thank you to all the people that helped us to get out. I broke some bones….a lot of bones, but I’m alive!.
My friend was seriously hurt as well, but she’s happy to be alive too. You guys ROCK.!
Special thanks to the head of Murray police, who spoke to us in a calm, caring voice, and reassured us that we would be ok. She is the bomb diggity in my eyes. Thank you thank you. Sincerely, and forever grateful, Dawna Ballenger
