DAVIS COUNTY, Utah, Sept. 4, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A Nevada truck driver has been arrested after investigators say he raped a woman in Davis County last month.

Talbert Montrell Elzie, 26, was booked into the Davis County Jail on Aug. 30 in connection with an assault that reportedly occurred on Aug. 7, according to court documents.

Elzie has been booked on:

  • Aggravated sexual assault, a first degree felony
  • Purchase, transport, possession or use of a firearm by a restricted person, a third-degree felony
  • Possession or use of a controlled substance, a class B misdemeanor
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, a class B misdemeanor
  • Use or possession of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor

According to a probable cause statement, Elzie picked up the victim at Love’s Travel Stop in Salt Lake City.

“The female disclosed that she came into contact with the defendant because she was offering to clean semi-trucks for extra money,” the statement says.

“The defendant told her he would give her $20, however he did not want them to stay at that location. The female entered the defendant’s semi-truck based upon the agreement that he would give her money.”

The probable cause statement says that once the woman was inside the semi, Elzie drove north on Interstate 15 to Kaysville.

“He then offered her more money to spend the night and hang out with him. The female agreed,” the court statement says.

Elzie stopped the semi at a rest stop near Kaysville, went to the sleeper cab, removed his clothing and told the woman to join him, the statement says. Elzie reportedly offered the victim money for a specific sex act, and she agreed, but said she would not have intercourse.

“The defendant then pulled out a black gun, ‘cocked it,’ and put it to her head.”

Elzie then raped her, the woman told law enforcement officers, adding she thought she would be killed if she resisted.

The defendant then got the woman out of his semi, “took off in his truck (and) he threw the female’s purse out of the window.” She then walked to a convenience store to report the assault, the statement says.

A DNA sample was collected, and was matched to Elzie on Feb. 28. A gun matching the one described by the victim was found in the truck cab, as was marijuana, which Elzie was reportedly smoking at the time he was stopped. A GPS log from the trucking company placed Elzie in Kaysville at the time of the assault.

Shown a photo of his accuser, Elzie denied any previous contact with the woman.
