TOOELE COUNTY, Utah, July 3, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A new wildfire broke out Wednesday afternoon in Tooele County‘s Skull Valley while the 3-week-old Little Twist Fire in Beaver County grew another 700 acres.

Named the Timpie Valley fire, Utah Fire Info posted the news of the latest blaze at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, saying it was 20 acres. Ground and air crews were responding.

“There are no known threats at this time,” the post says.

By 6:20 p.m. estimates had been revised, based on a drone survey, to 15.5 acres and 75% contained.

“Target shooting has been determined to be the cause of the fire.”

Meanwhile, Utah Fire Info earlier Wednesday noted the Little Twist Fire was now 3,368 acres and 30% contained. Tuesday the specifications were 2,663 acres, 20% contained.

“Today’s planned actions include continued firing operations to clean up additional interior pockets of unburned fuels to aid in containment, the information agency said of Little Twist.

“Smoke may continue to be visible for several weeks from surrounding areas including I-15, I-70, Hwy-89 and Hwy-20.”

The fire began as a prescribed burn in steep, rugged terrain in Fishlake National Forest that got loose June 13.
