New: Forsyth Fire closes Pine Valley Recreation area for season

DIXIE NATIONAL FOREST, Utah, July 5, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) -- Dixie National Forest officials have announced that the Pine Valley Recreation Area will be closed for the rest of the 2025 season.

"The Pine Valley Recreation Area, trails, campgrounds, and guard station will remain closed to the public throughout the remainder of the 2025 season due to resource damage caused by the Forsyth Fire. Public and firefighter safety are high priority at this time," says a statement posted on the Dixie National Forest social media sites."

"Since June 19, fire crews have been working tirelessly to reduce wildfire growth and improve suppression tactics, including frontline firefighter efforts, drone fuel reduction operations, and fire behavior management.

"Currently, crews are prioritizing the reduction of wildfire risks surrounding Pine Valley, the Pine Valley Recreation Area, Oak Grove Campground, and the Browse Guard Station.

All existing reservations have been cancelled and refunded. For questions regarding refunds, visit www.recreation.gov .

As of Saturday, July 5, the lightning-caused Forsyth Fire stands at 13,689 acres and 47% contained. The fire was first detected on June 19.

Personnel assigned to the fire now number 685.

Great Basin Team 7 will transition with Great Basin Team 2 tomorrow, Sunday
July 6. Great Basin Team 2 has begun and will continue to coordinate closely with the Dixie National Forest, State of Utah Forestry, Fire and State Lands, Bureau of Land Management and local cooperators to meet the needs of the changing fire conditions.
