KANE COUNTY, Utah, Aug. 16, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) —  The Hogs Heaven Fire in Kane County appears to be yielding to a large air and ground firefighting offensive, no longer threatening structures.

Fire officials in announcing its debut online at about 7:20 p.m. Thursday described it as 15 acres “and running” near Cedar Mountain. “Multiple structures threatened. Multiple ground and air resources responding.”

By 8:40 p.m. the tune at Utah Fire Info had changed, describing the blaze as now 20 acres, but the sizable response, apparently working.

“Air resources have lined perimeter with retardant and crews are further securing fire perimeter.

“Resources include 6 engines, air attack, several seats and a helicopter. No longer immediate threat to structures. No closures or evacuations at this time.”

Overnight the Hogs Heaven Fire had only gained two acres, Utah Fire Info said at 3:30 p.m. Friday.

“Firefighters have made good progress today working the perimeter of the fire and will continue to secure the perimeter of the fire throughout the day. Will update as more information becomes available.”

The fire had started at 4:55 p.m. Thursday, the cause appears to be lightning, possibly a holdover from recent activity.

Meanwhile, Thursday’s other new fire start, the Grouse Creek Fire in Box Elder County, reported at eight acres Thursday morning, by 9:30 p.m. was estimated at 17.8 acres.

“And 100% contained,” according to Utah Fire Info. “Crews will continue to monitor. Last update unless significant changes.”
