New LDS Church leadership to be announced Tuesday

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Jan. 13, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — The new president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be announced on Tuesday.

President Russell M. Nelson will address church members at 9 a.m. in a live announcement. At 10 a.m., Nelson, who is 94 and next in seniority for the position, will do a news conference to introduce new church leadership.

Nelson’s message will run live on MormonNewsroom.org and LDS.org.

Through the church satellite system, it will be provided to speakers of languages including in Cantonese and Mandarin, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mongolian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Samoan, Swedish, Tagalog, Tahitian, Thai, Tongan, Spanish and Ukrainian. An American Sign Language translation also will be provided.

Former LDS Church president Thomas S. Monson passed away Jan. 2 at age 90 after more than six decades of service to the LDS Church. Nearly 10 of those years were as the LDS president.

Monson was laid to rest on Friday.
