Suspect Who Assaulted Utah Highway Patrol Officer During Traffic Arrest Identified

SANDY, Utah, Jan. 21, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — A man wanted on outstanding felony warrants who is behind bars after allegedly attacking a Utah Highway Patrol officer early Thursday morning has been identified.

According to UHP Sgt. Mary Kaye Lucas, the officer was taking Hailsme Kafusi, 21, into custody after a routine traffic stop near 9000 South and 150 West when he suddenly punched her in the face.

Kafusi ran behind a nearby auto dealership where he was later found hiding in the shrubbery.

A K-9 officer was sent in and managed to subdue Kafusi. He was taken to the hospital with serious bite wounds to his legs.

The police investigation is ongoing.
