DAVIS COUNTY, Utah, Aug. 5, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A Utah Transit Authority bus was fully engulfed in flames on southbound U.S. Highway 89 Monday morning after having mechanical issues, officials said.

UTA spokesman Carl Arky told Gephardt Daily the incident occurred at 3650 N. U.S. Highway 89 just before 7 a.m.

The driver of route number 473 was traveling southbound towards Salt Lake City to pick up passengers, Arky said, when he saw smoke billowing out from under the bus.

The driver pulled over and exited the bus, which was soon fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters arrived and rapidly knocked down the fire, Arky said.

There were no injuries as a result of the blaze and no impact on UTA services.

No other vehicles were damaged as a result of the fire, although there was some traffic congestion.

It’s thought that a mechanical failure caused the fire, Arky said.
