BODY CAM: Officer Falls Off Roof During Confrontation With Suspicious Man

WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH — Dec. 1, 2015 – West Valley City police have released the body camera video of an officer who fell from the roof of a business after a man charged at him during a confrontation.

According to West Valley City Police, the incident started on Nov. 17 when dispatchers received a call from a clerk at a gas station near 4000 West and 4100 South of a man who was acting suspicious in the area.

When officers arrived, the man ran from them and ended up on the roof of a local business. He threatened officers he was going to use a grenade.

“The suspect charged at the officer causing him to lose his balance and fall from the roof,” West Valley City Police spokesperson Roxeanne Vainuku said.

The officer fell about 10 feet and was taken to the hospital where he was treated for minor injures.

The suspect, Sergio Ramirez, 32, was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on a felony threat of terrorism, criminal mischief, assault on a police officer, fleeing, interference with arrest and disorderly conduct.
