KEARNS, Utah, Jan. 4, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Fire crews responded to a home fire in Kearns on Friday morning, and were able to knock down flames quickly.

Crews were dispatched to the 5700 block of Garner Court 4650 West.

“The first arriving crew had some light smoke showing from the front door,” Dustin Dern, Unified Fire Authority battalion chief, told Gephardt Daily.

“The crew made entry, located a fire in the basement, and was able to extinguish it with a water can, so we were able to knock down the fire pretty quickly.”

Burned in the fire were some personal belongings and a Christmas tree, Dern said. The cause of the fire was not yet known.

Inspectors arrived and cleared the residents to remain in the home.

“There was smoke damage in the basement, a little bit of smoke damage upstairs — luckily, all the doors were closed,” Dern said. “The closed doors kept the fire from spreading up the stairs. It’s a good safety tip for people to remember.”
