Officials ID man killed in paragliding accident near Moab airport

MOAB, Utah, Oct. 9, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials have identified a paraglider who died Sunday when he crashed in Grand County, about a mile west of Canyonlands Field Airport, in Moab.

Lt. Kim Neal, Grand County Sheriff’s Office, confirmed the victim to be David L. Brecheisen, 57, of Fort Collins, Colorado.

Neal said the accident is believed to have happened at about 5:28 p.m. Brecheisen crashed about 400 yards south of Blue Hills Road and two miles west of U.S. Route 191.

Brecheisen had been paragliding with friends. The type of system he was using was a backpack/harness mounted paraglider, Neal said. No one witnessed the accident.

The weather at the time of the crash was clear, with a light wind of three to five mph.The cause of the accident remained undetermined as of Wednesday, Neal told Gephardt Daily.
