LEEDS, Utah, June 14, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — The Utah Highway Patrol has released the name of the woman killed Thursday outside Leeds when her car collided with a horse on northbound I-15.

The victim is Jessica M. Deane, 30. Originally from New Jersey, Deane was attending Rocky Vista University medical school in Ivins.

According to a Utah Highway Patrol statement, the accident happened at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday when Deane struck a black horse near mile marker 21 in Washington County.

Investigators say the heavily damaged car proceeded up the highway about half a mile before coming to rest against a cable barrier.

Troopers say Deane was killed on impact.

The horse also died.

Crash investigators were headed to the area after receiving reports of horses on the highway, but arrived too late to prevent the crash, the UHP statement says.
