SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Jan. 20, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A badly decomposed body was removed from the water at Memory Grove Park in City Creek Canyon on Sunday evening.

Lt. Jenn Diederich, with the Salt Lake City Police Department, said some people were walking their dog in the area at about 4 p.m., and the dog pulled them toward the creek.

“They looked down and saw a body about six feet down,” Diederich said. “They called 911 and reported it.”

Emergency crews responded, but it was obvious that the body had been in the water for quite some time. Police are not sure of the age or gender of the deceased.

Lt. Diederich said the body is now in the custody of the Medical Examiner’s Office, and an investigation is underway.

Gephardt Daily will update this developing story as more information becomes available.
