SPRINGDALE, Utah, March 7, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A hiker who fell to his death while hiking in Zion National Park has been identified.

Tate Ryan Volino, 45, from Osprey, Florida, fell from the Angels Landing Trail on Friday morning, Zion National Park officials said in a statement.

Hikers discovered Volino’s body in Refrigerator Canyon, along the West Rim Trail on the way to Angels Landing, at approximately 8:20 a.m., and called 911, according to park officials.

“We are all very saddened by this accident, and profound loss,” said Zion National Park superintendent Jeff Bradybaugh. “Our deepest condolences go out to the Volino family, friends and loved ones.”

Volino, who was an author, leaves a wife, and two sons, ages 13 and 15 years old.

Officials said Volino appears to have been hiking alone when he fell from the trail.

The West Rim Trail was closed for several hours during the investigation.
