BOX ELDER COUNTY, Utah, Oct. 10, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials are investigating after a fatal UTV accident in Willard Basin near Willard Peak Wednesday.

A news release from the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office said its office was contacted by Weber County Wednesday at approximately 2:15 p.m. advising that there was a missing 57-year-old man believed to be in a UTV that might be near Willard Peak.

The man, Brent Daily of Ogden, was reported to have left Ogden on Tuesday around 8 a.m. and had not been seen since.

“His pickup and trailer were located in the area of Liberty in Weber County,” the news release said. “It was known that he would go riding in the mountains above Liberty and Avon. This could have placed him in any of the three counties.”

Box Elder, Weber and Cache Search and Rescue units were all activated along with a helicopter from Utah Department of Safety Aero Bureau.

Daily was reported to have a medical condition that required “much needed medication,” the news release said.

The air crew found Daily at about 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Willard Basin area, the news release said. DPS landed and determined that Daily was deceased. Investigators at the scene were unable to determine if an accident caused the death of Daily or if he suffered a medical issue that caused the accident.

The three SAR units recovered Daily from the scene and he was transported to the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office to determine exact cause of death.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
