MURRAY, Utah, Nov. 19, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials have identified a woman and her 7-year-old granddaughter who were killed in a Murray house fire Monday morning.

The deceased are Lisa Wiley, 53, and Cassidy Jackson, a second-grader at Viewmont Elementary School.

The mother and the uncle of the 7-year-old girl were able to escape from the fire. Both are being treated at area hospitals.

Firefighters from the Unified Fire Authority said two victims were discovered inside the home near 5700 South and 700 West at about 9 a.m., approximately 90 minutes after the original call came in to 911 dispatchers.

When firefighters arrived, they found the house was engulfed in smoke and flames.

A woman outside the residence told firefighters that two people, including her daughter, were still inside the house.

Multiple explosions kept crews at a distance until they could knock down the flames. They were also hampered by a maze of property inside the home.

The cause of the blaze has yet to be determined.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by family members. The page said: “The family lost everything, and could really use the community’s help in this awful situation. Please consider a donation to help this family. Even a dollar can help.”

Gephardt Daily will update the story as more information becomes available.
