BOX ELDER COUNTY, Utah, June 29, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — The Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office has revealed the circumstances surrounding what it classified as the “suspicious death” of a 16-year-old boy found Thursday in a Corinne park.

The deceased, Marcus Elkins, was found at Bill Flack Park at about 7:50 a.m. Officials announced Thursday that they believed Elkins had died elsewhere and had been moved to the park, and that suspects in the case were juveniles.

“Box Elder County Sheriff detectives have determined the circumstances surrounding the death of Marcus Elkins in Corinne,” says an update released by the BECS on Saturday.

“Sometime during the evening, three other juveniles met up with and joined Marcus. As reported by the other juveniles involved there was consumption of alcohol during the night.

“Activities took them between the two parks in Corinne, and at some point during their movement Marcus collapsed. The three juveniles moved Marcus to Bill Flack Park from where he collapsed.”

The cause and time of death will be announced when the Medical Examiner’s report is complete, the update says.

“All of the juveniles, including Marcus, are Corinne residents,” the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office statement says.

“The other juveniles involved will not be named and no arrests have been made. The investigation will be turned over to the Box Elder County Attorney for further review and determination of charges.”

Elkins was last seen in Bill Flack Park at about 10 p.m. the night before his body was found, an earlier BECS statement said.

Tribute, fundraising account

A friend of the family has organized an online fundraiser to help pay costs for a memorial service. The friend also included a tribute to Elkins.

“Marcus was a wonderful young man,” the account says. “He was 16 years old when he was taken from this earth unexpectedly. He was a sweet funny young man that could make anyone laugh. He was the light of his mom’s life and her best friend.

“This is unexpected and she is at a loss. Please help her with anything you can. She did not want to set up this fund because she hates to ask for help. Please share what you can and help in any way even if it is just sharing the post. No parent ever plans to outlive their child.”
