Officials seek leads on autistic man missing since July

NORTHERN UTAH, Sept. 25, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Authorities are asking for the public’s help locating David Allan Roe, last seen on July 15 giving food and money to the homeless in Salt Lake City.

His bank cards were last used on that day. Then, on July 18, Roe’s car was found near Hardware Ranch, in Cache County’s Blacksmith Fork Canyon.

“Despite extensive search efforts, there has been no sign of him,” a statement from the Cache County Sheriff’s Office says.

Roe, 48, is high-functioning autistic. Ge stands 6 feet 3 inches, and weighs about 135 pounds. He has brown hair and hazel eyes.

“Local law enforcement, in collaboration with with Cache County Search and Rescue and Orem Police Department, are working tirelessly to investigate all leads,” the statement says. “However, community assistance is crucial at this time.”

CCSO Lt. Mikelshan Bartschi says any detail could help.

“We are doing everything we can to find David, and we are hopeful that the community can help us bring him home safely,” Bartschi said. “If you know anything, even the smallest detail, please come forward.”

The CCSO says the public can help by:

  • Reporting any sightings or information to the Cache County Sheriff’s Office at 435-755-1152. The case number is 24-C6481
  • Sharing information on social media to raise awareness
  • Being vigilant in the areas surrounding Hardware Ranch

The Sheriff statement adds that authorities “are especially concerned due to winter soon approaching.”
