Officials update conditions of father, daughter struck by lightning in Fillmore

FILLMORE, Utah, June 21, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — The Millard County Sheriff’s Office has released an update on the father and daughter struck by lightning Thursday night, and transported by air to a Salt Lake County hospital for treatment.

“We’ve received information that the young lady involved has a damaged eardrum and suffers from first-degree burns,” a MCSO statement says. “Her father regained some consciousness during the medical flight.”

An earlier news release said that just before 8 p.m. Thursday, a strong weather front moved through the Fillmore area.

“A father and daughter were struck by lightning while involved in outside activities for a youth group at the Territorial Statehouse Park,” it says. “Nearby EMTs responded and CPR was quickly rendered to the father, who regained a pulse but required artificial respiration during transport to the hospital.

“The daughter regained a disoriented consciousness and was also transported by a second ambulance. Both patients were subsequently transferred north by air for specialty care.”

The Millard County Sheriff’s Office has withdrawn its earlier statement that the two were participating in an activity involving stilts.

“That was found to be inaccurate, therefore, we have retracted that information.”
