OGDEN, Utah, Dec. 2, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — An arrest has been made in connection with the Nov. 25 shooting of a man in West Haven.

Jes Robert Vollmer, 38, of Ogden, was taken to Weber County Jail and booked on suspicion of attempted aggravated murder, possession of a firearm by a restricted person, obstruction of justice and drug possession, according to Weber County Sheriff’s Lt. Nate Hutchinson. Hutchinson said Vollmer had methamphetamine on him when he was arrested.

On Nov. 25, around 5 p.m., sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 1000 block on Wilson Lane in West Haven, where they found a 40-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

Hutchinson said the victim has had surgery, is still hospitalized and, although he is in stable condition, he is sedated and police haven’t interviewed him.

“Good old-fashioned police work” led to Vollmer’s arrest, Hutchinson said. Detectives learned that the house where the shooting occurred belongs to one of Vollmer’s relatives, but it isn’t known if the victim went there to see Vollmer or someone else.

The victim and Vollmer knew each other, but Hutchinson said the relationship and the motive for the shooting are still unknown. Hutchinson said detectives recovered the handgun allegedly used in the shooting and were able to tie it to Vollmer.

Vollmer was arrested around 1 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, at a house in Ogden. Hutchinson confirmed that Vollmer has an extensive criminal history and in 2011 was convicted of aggravated assault and sentenced to up to five years in Utah State Prison.
