OGDEN, Utah, Dec. 29, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A man killed Friday after he was hit by a car struck and forced forward by an alleged DUI driver has been identified.

He was James Wood.

“My brother was out walking his dog Friday night when hit by an impaired driver,” says a GoFundMe account established by Jack Wood.

“We are all shocked and concerned about his disabled wife. What do we do now without him?”

James Wood was struck by a Honda that was hit by the alleged drunk driver, and forced into the crosswalk where Wood had right of way and was crossing with the light.

The Honda was struck from behind by a silver Dodge Ram, which Ogden City police say was driven by Tyson Bryce Treasure, 26.

Treasure had fled from Ogden Regional Medical Center after refusing detox treatment, his arrest document says. He fled an attempted traffic stop at 40th South and Adams Avenue. Next, he was in a traffic accident at 4200 South and Harrison Boulevard, Treasure’s arrest document says.

He fled north on Harrison Boulevard, and rear-ended a Tesla and the Honda stopped at a traffic light at 20th South.

Wood was the pedestrian crossing in front of the stopped Honda.

“The Honda was pushed into the intersection and through the crosswalk where a pedestrian was crossing,” Treasure’s arrest document says.

“The Honda ran over the pedestrian. After coming to a stop off the roadway, Tyson reversed into the roadway and then fled North on Harrison. The driver suffered severe injuries to the face and the pedestrian was tragically killed.”

Treasure again fled, according to a police affidavit, and struck another vehicle at 12th Street and Harrison.

“Tyson T-boned another vehicle in the intersection,” his arrest document says. “The driver of the other involved vehicle was pinned in the vehicle and suffered major injuries to her pelvis and lower extremities.”

That crash also disabled Treasure’s pickup, and he was taken into custody. He was booked into the Weber County jail for investigation of crimes including automobile homicide, criminal negligence, a second-degree felony. See the full list of alleged crimes here.

“Long time Ogden resident James Wood went out around 5:30 pm to walk the dog. Did not take his wallet or phone with him,” the fundraising account says. According to multiple reports, the dog found its way home.

Wood “Leaves behind his disabled widow and a large family.”

As of late Sunday morning, the account had raised nearly $4,000.
