OGDEN, Utah, June 11, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Police in Ogden are trying to piece together information about a Friday night shooting between alleged gang members.

Officers were dispatched to a report of shots fired near 29th Street and Porter Avenue just before 6 p.m.

When officers arrived, witnesses told police shots were exchanged between a male on foot and several suspects in a SUV. The man ran into a nearby residence located near 566 29th St., and the vehicle left in an unknown direction out of the area.

Suspecting there might be people inside the residence who were not involved and needed protection, the Ogden Metro SWAT Team responded to the scene. The suspect inside the home was taken into custody without incident.

Police said one of the suspects received a minor injury during the shooting and was treated at a local hospital.

Police have identified two of the suspects involved as 27-year-old Emanuel Carranza and 28-year-old Justin Martinez. Both have been arrested and booked into the Weber County Jail for Aggravated Assault.

Martinez also was charged with possession of firearm by restricted person, felony discharge of a firearm and assault on a police officer.

The investigation is continuing. Police have not said how many others are involved, or revealed the suspected roles the two men arrested played in the shooting. Officers have said they believe the shooting is gang related.
