GRANTSVILLE, Utah, Feb. 26, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — A 57-year-old man has been booked into the Tooele County Jail and his brother was transported to the hospital after a fight, apparently involving a hammer and a knife, in the parking lot of a Grantsville dollar store.

The suspect booked is Harold Wade Meik. Information on the jail website shows he was booked for domestic aggravated assault — serious injury, a second-degree felony.

His brother was transported to the University of Utah Hospital.

Lt. Robert Sager told Gephardt Daily that at about 6:42 p.m. Thursday, officers were dispatched to the Family Dollar store at 560 E. Main St.

“When officers arrived, two adult males were actively fighting over a knife,” Sager said. “The officers ordered the individuals to stop, which they did.

“They were taken into custody and treated by medical. The stabbing victim was flown to University Hospital.”

Sager said one man was apparently hit in the head by the other, with a hammer, and that man (Harold Meik) returned to his vehicle and retrieved a knife, which was used in the stabbing.

The stabbing victim, whose name has not been released, was taken in to surgery, Sager said. Police have not yet been able to interview him.

Initially, police indicated that, depending on the outcome of the investigation, it was possible the brother who was stabbed could also be facing charges in the incident.

Later Friday night, however, Sager told Gephardt Daily that it is unlikely any charges will be filed against the brother who was stabbed, as it appears he is a victim in the case.

The investigation is ongoing, and details on what sparked the altercation are not yet known.
