RICH COUNTY, Utah, June 29, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — One person is dead and one was critically injured in a head-on collision Sunday afternoon in Box Elder County.

At about 4:32 p.m., the driver of a 2000 GMC Sierra pickup headed south on State Route 16 near milepost 23 crossed the center line and went into a northbound lane, striking a 2020 Ford F-150.

The passenger in the Sierra pickup, who was eight months pregnant, was seriously injured, and was transported to an area hospital by a medical helicopter.

“It was later determined the baby was deceased,” a statement from Utah Highway Patrol says. “It is suspected the driver of the Sierra fell asleep, causing him to drift out of his lane.”

Update: Gephardt Daily originally reported the woman had not survived, which was incorrect. We regret this error.
