SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Jan. 30 (Gephardt Daily) — One man is dead after allegedly setting himself and his vehicle on fire at a Flying J gas station in Salt Lake City.
The incident at the Flying J at 900 West and 2100 South happened around 4 p.m. Saturday.
Lt. Michael Hatch with the Salt Lake City Police Department said the man, whom police have not yet identified, was at the pumps when he used the gasoline as a propellant to set himself on fire.
The investigation is ongoing but at this point police think the man committed suicide.
Hatch said there was additional concern because the fire and the gas pumps might have caused an explosion, but police and fire worked quickly to secure the area.
There were no evacuations to nearby buildings because the fire was extinguished in a matter of minutes.
Gephardt Daily does not report on suicides unless there is an impact to the public.
