OREM, Utah, March 1, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — The victim of a Monday morning crash on Interstate 15 in Orem has been identified, officials said.

The deceased is Leilani K. White, 37, from Mapleton, according to a news release from the Utah Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:40 a.m. on the northbound I-15 at Orem Center Street, near milepost 271, the news release said. It was snowing heavily in the area, and a 2014 Nissan Sentra was traveling north.

The Nissan was either stopped in the center lane or moving very slowly, when a box van went over the Orem Center structure and was not able to avoid striking the passenger car on the rear.

Investigators are looking into the possibility that the Nissan lost control, spun and became disabled in the center lane.

White, the driver of the Nissan, did not survive the crash.

Northbound I-15 also closed at milepost 263, Provo Center Street, due to a 17-car crash that same morning, the UHP also said.

The Provo crash closed all lanes of northbound I-15 at that location, but there were no major injuries.
