BREAKING NEWS: Six Teenagers Involved In Deadly Lehi Area Crash

LEHI, UTAH – June 12, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Police in Utah County said a 17-year old girl is dead and four other teens injured, one of them critically, in a roll over accident near 2300 N. and 600 East in the Dry Creek area of unincorporated Utah County.

A sixth teen suffered only minor injuries.

According to Utah County Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Spencer Cannon, the crash took place shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday when the vehicle the teens were in rolled while rounding a curve at the bottom of a hill while driving at a high rate of speed.

Police say a witness driving in the area saw the crash happen and found the driver and three others had been thrown from the car. The witness assisted by administering CPR to the driver until Lehi Fire Department Paramedics arrived.

The driver, Maryah Hayley Edwards, age 17, from Lehi, was declared dead at the scene. Police say she Maryah was not wearing a seat belt.

A male passenger, Jayden Farrell, age 17, of Lehi, was also thrown from the vehicle. He sustained numerous injuries and was flown to IMC in Murray where he underwent surgery to relieve pressure on his brain. Police say he suffered a broken back and broken neck and is in extremely critical condition.

Of the six occupants in the vehicle five were age 17 and one, a girl, was age 16. Four of the six were ejected. The front seat passenger, a 17-year-old girl from Lehi, was wearing a seat belt and suffered only minor injuries.

The area where this crash occurred is a narrow two lane road with no shoulder. This vehicle was driving north and the driver was able to negotiate a right hand curve. A short distance later the road curved back to the left and the driver lost control of the vehicle. There is a 20 mph posted cautionary speed, with other caution signs to alert drivers to the nature of the road. The vehicle is estimated to have been traveling in excess of 50 mph. Deputies will continue their investigation to determine if drugs or alcohol may have been factors in this crash.
