WEST JORDAN, Utah, Dec. 5, 2015 – (Gephardt Daily) – One man is in critical condition after a shootout at a party in West Jordan late Friday night.

A call reporting shots fired near 7050 South and 1300 West came into dispatch just before midnight. “When our officers arrived, they found one victim who had been shot laying on the ground,” said West Jordan Police Sgt. Danny Benzon.

The victim was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition where he underwent surgery.

Sgt. Benzon said it appears the individuals involved were attending a party spread between three apartments when a fight broke out between four people, including one juvenile.

Three suspects pulled out guns and started shooting at the victim, who returned fire. “The victim was hit four times and suffered wounds to his calf, thighs and armpit,” Sgt. Benzon said. “He is expected to survive.”

According to Sgt. Benzon, witnesses said there were several gang words exchanged between the men during the shooting. The incident was partially captured on video and police are reviewing it to get descriptions of the suspects.

All the occupants of the apartment units allegedly know each other and have been cooperating with police.

Anyone who has information on the shooting or the suspects is asked to call West Jordan Police at (801) 256-2000.
