CEDAR FORT, UTAH – May 22, 2015 (Gepahrdt Daily) — The identity of a man who died after colliding with an oncoming garbage truck on Tuesday has been released by the Utah County Sheriff’s office.

Donald Leroy Peterson, age 72, of Provo was killed after the red passenger car he was driving drifted into the path of a garbage truck.

The driver of the garbage truck said he tried to swerve out of the way but was unable to avoid the car because it had drifted across the center line causing the nearly head-on collision.

A spokesman for Utah County Sheriff’s Office stated, “Unfortunately the driver of the small car suffered extensive injuries and appears to have died on impact.”

The driver of the garbage truck however was not physically injured but was visibly shaken up by the incident.

Officials said even after speaking with family members, they did not learn anything about Peterson that would immediately explain what happened to cause this crash.
