OREM, Utah, Oct. 27, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — An Orem man who police said was assaulted and left in critical condition on Thursday afternoon has died.

Police were called to the scene, near 600 North and 300 East, after a witness found the 47-year-old victim. According to the witness, one person, possibly a suspect, had left the scene.

In a Facebook post, the Orem Police Department said the investigation found inconsistencies, and “… it was hard to piece together exactly what happened and how it happened. Hence the reason for our vagueness.

“Last night, you’re aware that we had a short pursuit with someone and that we set up containment in the same area that the assault took place,” the post said.

“The person who was involved in the pursuit was someone that we wanted to talk to about the actual assault, at the time we didn’t know if he was a suspect, witness etc. This afternoon, we were able to get everyone that we needed to talk to. We are not looking for anyone else and the area is safe to go about your daily business.”

The post said no weapons were used, and a medical condition the victim suffered with may figure into what happened.

“In order to answer a lot of the questions we have, we are going to have to lean on the medical examiner to find out what happened to the man that passed away,” the post said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and to those affected by this tragic event.”

The victim has not yet been identified by police.
