OREM, Utah, July 1, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A Los Angeles man was booked into the Utah County jail Saturday after Orem police noticed him blocking city traffic, then spotted a misspelled word on the SUV’s temporary tags.

The vehicle driven by 28-year-old Juan Dario Carcamo was listed on the tags as a 2019 Nissan “Paifander.” An additional check revealed the tag’s listed vehicle identification number on the tags did not match the SUV’s actual VIN number.

Carcamo and others were removed from the vehicle, and Carcamo asked why he was being detained, says his affidavit, filed by an officer of the Orem Police Department.

“Officers advised that he was detained for displaying a fraudulent temporary tag. Juan told Officer Jordan that he purchased the temporary tag off Facebook Marketplace so he could drive home. Juan advised that there was also a firearm in the vehicle.”

The gun was seized, and a pre-arrest search turned up a large amount of cash in Carcamo’s pocket, which was turned over to a passenger at Carcamo’s request.

“Juan’s wallet was located in the back pocket of his shorts. Inside the wallet contained numerous credit cards and identifications belonging to Juan.

“Also inside the wallet were three fraudulent identification cards with a photo of Juan but with different names and dates of births. Along with the identification cards were three fraudulent checks written to these fraudulent identification cards. Another check was located which was written to a Milton Lopez which was not correlating to any fraudulent identification cards found on Juan’s person.”

Carcamo admitted to an ICE officer on scene that the ID cards “were fraudulent and he uses them for work without providing his real name.”

Carcamo was booked into the Utah County jail for investigation of forge-false licence/specialty plate, a third degree felony, and for seven counts of possess forgery writing, also a third-degree felony. He was ordered held without bail.
