OREM, Utah, Aug. 24, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — The Orem Police Department has 52 uniformed officers, but more than 39,000 unofficial volunteers.

That’s the number of Facebook followers the department has, and puts to good use by posting perp pictures and asking the public to help identify the suspects.

“All joking aside … this SM (social media) thing works soooooo good!,” the department posted Thursday on its Facebook page, adding a security camera image emblazoned with the word “captured.”

“Literally, an hour after our post last night someone called with a tip and we arrested the Ready Gunner burglar.

“He is on his way to the pokey for some much needed shut-eye. When we arrested him and asked ‘why the saggy sweatpants?’ He claimed ‘these are my recreation clothes’ (all joking aside only pertained to the first sentence).

“Our FB following is world renowned and this just shows why. Great work!”
Then the post offered some all-purpose advice:

“Keep your rage in a cage, if it’s not yours don’t touch it, eat it don’t tweet it, hugs not drugs and smile … it confuses people.”
