SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Sept. 15, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Osa Masina surrendered to authorities after being charged Thursday by the Salt Lake District Attorney’s Office with rape and sodomy.

The three felony charges, one for rape and two for forcible sodomy, announced Thursday morning, stem from a July 26 incident in Cottonwood Heights, according to a news release from the District Attorney’s Office.

Masina, 19, is alleged to have assaulted a 19-year-old woman. Masina has said the sex was consensual.

Masina is known as a sophomore linebacker on the University of Southern California football team. In Utah, he was a star player at Brighton High School.

According to a probable cause statement, the victim told police she passed out after consuming marijuana and alcohol at a party, and awoke to find Masina assaulting her.

Masina allegedly sent pictures and video of one of the attacks to the woman’s ex-boyfriend.

The court issued an arrest warrant for Masina for $250,000 before he turned himself in. Each first degree felony is punishable by a maximum sentence of up to life in prison.

Masina posted bail just before before 7 p.m. Thursday, and was release from the Salt Lake County Jail.

Masina, who is being investigated on similar charges involving the same woman in California, has been suspended from the USC football team and banned from university’s campus.
