SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Jan. 20, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — Police arrested a 38-year-old man on drug, trespassing and burglary tools charges Sunday after he was found inside a fenced area near 400 South 500 West.
A hole had been cut in the fence to allow unpermitted access, a statement issued by Salt Lake City Police public relations says.
The man ultimately arrested, Michael Martinez, was found to be on parole, and Adult Probation & Parole obtained a search warrant, which turned up illegal drugs and burglary tools in the man’s possession.
“Officers found (Martinez) to be in possession of a brown-like substance that field tested positive as heroin, a blue M30 fentanyl pill on a piece of aluminum foil,” say arrest documents filed by an officer of the SLCPD.
“I located in (his) right sock a piece of plastic with a green leaf-like substance that field tested positive for THC. Inside the (man’s) backpack, officers found a shaved Hyundai key.”
Officers “also located hypodermic needles, aluminum foil with a black burnt residue, a rubber tourniquet, a glass pipe that had a bulbous end that is broken containing a crystal-like residue, and a broken spoon that contained a brown like substance that held the heroin. Officers located a pill bottle containing Gabapentin that was not the prescription with the bottle. Officers also located two suboxone inside the (man’s) backpack.”
Martinez was arrested for investigation of:
- Two counts of possession of controlled substances schedule I/II/analog, a third-degree felony
- Five counts of use or possession of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor
- Manufacture/possession of burglary tools, a class B misdemeanor
- Criminal trespass – intent to annoy/injure/fear/crime, a class B misdemeanor
- Three counts of possession or use of a controlled substances, a class B misdemeanor
Bail for Martinez was set at $10,000. As of Monday morning, he was not listed as a jail or prison inmate.
