Pedestrian hit by semi, critically injured on I-15 in Murray

MURRAY, Utah, Feb. 9, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A man was critically injured Saturday morning when he was hit by a semi on Interstate 15 in Murray.

The collision occurred at 6000 South, according to information from the Utah Highway Patrol.

“At about 11:07 a.m., UHP dispatch received a report of a pedestrian on I-15 near 6000 South,” the news release says. “When troopers arrived a few minutes later, the individual walked into traffic and was struck by a semi.

“The semi had slowed to approximately 20 mph, but the pedestrian still suffered life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition. The individual is 68-years-old man from the Murray area. His name has not been released pending family notification.

“Troopers remain unsure of the reason why the individual walked into traffic, but are concerned it may have been a suicide attempt.”

The northbound lanes of I-15 were blocked while the investigation was completed and the semi was cleared.

Gephardt Daily does not typically report suicides or suicide attempts unless they impact the public.
