Photos: Thousands protest Trump’s downsizing of national monuments in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Dec. 3, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — There was an outpouring of emotion at the Utah State Capitol Saturday, as thousands gathered in voicing opposition to a White House plan that sharply downsizes the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments.

The somber demonstration – attended by protestors from across the state and led by members of Utah’s Native American community – took local and federal leaders to task for the massive wilderness rollback, the first such act by a U.S. president in nearly 50 years.

The mass protest took place just 48 hours before a planned visit to Utah by Donald Trump, where he is scheduled to announce plans to reduce the size of the national monuments by up to 85 percent.
