EMERY COUNTY, Utah, Dec. 11, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A pickup truck driver died at the scene of a collision with a semi on U.S. Route 6 in Emery County Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened at about 2:35 p.m. at mile marker 273, between Price and Green River.

“An eastbound 2019 White Chevrolet Colorado pickup occupied by a single occupant (the male driver) crossed left of center on double yellow lines on SR-6 near milepost 273,” says an account published by the Utah Department of Public Safety.

The two-lane road, flanked by guardrails, was marked there as a no-passing area. A semi was headed west.

“The driver of the commercial motor vehicle was unable to take any evasive action as the pickup truck collided head-on into the semi. The impact sheared off the front axle of the semi.”

The pickup driver was restrained, but sustained fatal injuries, and was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi driver’s injuries were treated on scene.

“Witnesses indicate the pickup truck was traveling erratically, making bad passes, and traveling at a high rate of speed.”

The road was closed for about two hours as the scene was documented and cleared, the statement says.

The victim was identified Friday as Michael Rivera, 38, of Palm Springs, California.
