AMERICAN FORK, Utah, April 27, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A 10-year-old girl who was rushed to the hospital after colliding with a car while riding her bicycle Wednesday has died.
The girl was transported in critical condition to an area hospital before being flown by medical helicopter to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City.
American Fork Police Sgt. Josh Christensen told Gephardt Daily the girl was taken off of life support on Friday afternoon and died at Primary Children’s.
The accident occurred in the intersection at 560 West and 1120 North at approximately 5 p.m., according to American Fork Police Department officials. The girl’s bicycle hit a moving car.
Christensen said the crash was not the fault of the driver, and officials do not believe there were any contributing factors, such as speed or impairment. It isn’t known why the girl was in the intersection.
“It was a super-tragic accident,” he said, “and our hearts go out to everyone involved.”
The girl’s name has not been released, Christensen said, and the family has requested privacy during this difficult time.
