SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, September 7, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Utah Highway Patrol and the State Bureau of Investigation staged mass arrests Thursday morning at a known drug house in Salt Lake City, not far from the Utah State Fair Park.
Sgt. Todd Royce, Utah Highway Patrol, told Gephardt Daily that the operation was part of a push to clean up crime in the Rio Grande area of downtown Salt Lake City.
“There’s been a lot of talk about ‘We’re going to follow the drugs where they go,'” Royce said. “Well, we followed it out here to North Temple and in this house.”
Royce said 24 people were taken into custody, and a stolen firearm was found in the house, as was an undisclosed amount of illegal drugs. Officers were processing the house and interviewing those found inside, Royce said.
Neighbors told Gephardt Daily dozens of heavily armed officers, including members of the SWAT team, descended on the home and adjacent buildings near 915 W. 200 North around 6 a.m.
Police requested resources for transporting as many 26 people in the aftermath of the pre-dawn raid.
Gephardt Daily has a crew on scene. We will update this developing story as more information becomes available.
