Update: SLC police confirm homicide victim died from gunshot wound

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, April 15, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Police in Salt Lake City have confirmed a man found deceased Monday morning died from a gunshot wound.

SLCPD officer Jesse Perea said officers were called to 1000 West Wenco Drive about 4:35 a.m. in response to reports of gunfire. When police arrived they found a man’s body lying in the street near 1000 Wenco Street.

Salt Lake City police tweeted at noon Monday: “Our #detectives have confirmed that the #victim from this morning’s #homicide died from a gunshot. Anyone with information is asked to call #SLCPD #SeeSomethingSaySomething”

Perea said detectives were going door to door to see if anyone had seen or heard anything suspicious.

Police were also working to preserve any evidence at the scene as a steady rain moved into the area.

Investigators had yet to determine the victim’s identity and have called on the Metro Gang Unit to aid in the investigation.
