Police: Herriman man arrested after choking 5-year-old boy

HERRIMAN, Utah, Feb. 18, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A Herriman man is behind bars after allegedly choking a 5-year-old boy on Valentine’s Day.

According to a probable cause statement filed in 3rd District Court, Casey Merrill Jensen, 32, was punishing the child for choking a pet puppy. He now faces charges of second-degree felony child abuse with intent to inflict serious physical injury and class B misdemeanor for the threat of violence.

Officials responded to an address in Herriman on a report of child abuse, the statement said.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the complainant who told officers her son, who is 5, was choked by her fiance. She said her fiance, identified as Jensen, got mad at the son for allegedly choking their puppy.

The complainant told officers the fiance picked up the child “by his arm off of the ground, threw him to his bed, and choked him by placing his hand around his throat.”

She said she grabbed her fiance by the arm and told him to stop. He then yelled at the child “If you do that again I’ll f—ing kill you.”

Jensen is being held in Salt Lake County Jail. His bail set at $25,000.
