Police ID man killed in West Valley City shooting; 15-year-old suspect in custody

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Feb. 14, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Police officials revealed Wednesday that they have a 15-year-old suspect in custody after the triple-shooting Tuesday in West Valley City, and they have identified the man who was killed in the incident.

The victim is 49-year-old Charles Baker from California. Baker, who died at the scene, had been staying with associates at the apartment complex.

Two other people injured were a 17-year-old male shot in the torso and a 38-year-old man who was hit by multiple bullets.

Both were taken to a local hospital, according to information released Wednesday by the West Valley City Police Department. One is in critical condition and the other is in stable condition, the statement said, but it did not indicate which victim was in more serious condition.

The shooting was first reported at 4:15 p.m. at an apartment complex at 3510  W. Parkway Blvd.

“Investigators have determined that prior to the shooting incident, there was an altercation involving multiple people, including juveniles and adults,” the WVCPD statement says. “Investigators are still trying to determine the circumstances leading up to and occurring during this incident.”

“A 15-year-old male was questioned and has been booked into Juvenile Detention regarding this incident.”
