ST. GEORGE, UTAH – September 14, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – The search continues for St. George teenager Macin Smith, who has been missing for two weeks today.

Approximately 240 volunteers met in St. George Saturday at 6 a.m. to canvass the surrounding area. The Red Rock Search and Rescue team from Las Vegas is also searching in that area.

Smith’s uncle, Keith Bratt, posted on Facebook following the search: “Macin was not found, but it was a huge success in eliminating where he is not. This is a needle in a haystack, and a lot of hay was taken off the pile this morning.”

Smith, 17, was last seen in the Little Valley area of St. George on the morning of September 1. He is 6’4″ and 200 lbs. with short blonde hair and blue eyes.

Bratt said they are extremely worried about the teenager.

“Macin is a big, goofy kid. He didn’t really fit in, had few friends, and loved to listen to his music, play video games,” Bratt said. “He loves his mom, and was really Momma’s boy. He was always behind in life and really couldn’t even speak till he was four or five. The police have no leads at this time, but are aware he did attempt suicide in the past, and left a three-page letter to the family stating ‘goodbye.’

“He was doing OK but was upset the night before he left that sometime late that night his computer and phone were taken from him. His note does state this, so we know he wrote the note that night. He left with nothing but his binder to go to school. He had no money, no wallet, and no cell phone.

“The police have gone through his phone and computer with no leads. My family is a mess. It is really clear to me that Macin has the possibility that he would hurt himself. We need to find Macin for so many reasons. We need to find Macin for closure for our family, no matter what the outcome.”

There will be a Candlelight Vigil for Smith at the LDS Chapel parking lot, 2668 East Crimson Ridge Dr., St George at 7:45 p.m.

Anyone that has information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact the St. George Police Department at (435) 627-4300.
