LAYTON, Utah, Feb. 21, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A 35-year-old man was fatally shot by a homeowner Thursday evening on the 300 block of West Park Avenue.

Layton Police Lt. Alex Davis said the 911 call was received at 6:47 p.m., and the incident is currently under investigation. The 34-year-old man who fired the shots is cooperating with authorities, he said.

“The shooter is the one who called 911 to notify us and summon medical help,” Davis told Gephardt Daily.

The victim was transported to Intermountain Hospital in Layton, where he succumbed to his injuries. Davis said the man was shot at least twice.

Davis had no information as to what type of gun was used or the motive behind the shooting, and it was unclear as to whether the homeowner has made any statements to the police, who are still interviewing him.

No one else was in the home at the time of the shooting.

Davis said the police “believe the men were acquainted — they were known to one another, but we don’t know what the relationship was. We’re still gathering information.”

Gephardt Daily will update this developing story as more details becomes known.
