WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Nov. 17, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A man was taken to the hospital in serious condition after being shot Thursday evening in West Valley City.

According to West Valley City Police Sgt. Sean McCarthy, the call about a man with a gunshot wound was received by WVCPD at approximately 7:10 p.m. The call was initially received about five minutes earlier by Unified Police Department, which notified West Valley police after it was determined the man had not been shot where he was found.

McCarthy said the man collapsed on South Dutch Draw Drive in Taylorsville, and his vehicle was found about a half-block south of that location. The victim told police he was shot at an apartment complex near 3800 S. Redwood Road, but he was unable to give them more information at the time due to his condition. Police are not sure whether he was taken to Dutch Draw Drive by someone else or drove himself there.

The victim was transported by Unified Fire Authority to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, where he was stabilized and was being treated for at least one gunshot wound, McCarthy said. He is expected to survive. Investigators are at the hospital and will interview him later.

The car the man was in has been sealed off, McCarthy said, and will be searched later tonight or tomorrow.

Gephardt Daily will update this developing story as more information becomes available.
